Welcome

The second reunion committee from Elkins and Beverly, West Virginia, are pleased to welcome the cousins to the Chenoweth National Family Reunion which will convene Thursday through Sunday, August 15 - 18, 2002, at another bustling college town and important Civil War historic site.

This announcement and registration form is your best resource to be able to register for the 2002 national family reunion of Chenoweth cousins. All the cousins will be gathering in Elkins and Beverly, West Virginia. Here are the details:

THEME "TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS...."

Actually, this reunion is a John thing. If you're ancestor chart runs back to John (2), then you surely would want to plan to meet at the very place where most of your cousins never left, Randolph County, Virginia, now West Virginia. If you're from a different line, it's still most important that you plan to attend from the standpoint of checking out using DNA as a tool for genealogy and, then too, for the opportunity to study history at the site of the first land engagement of the American Civil War.

HELP OUT!

We want you to copy this flyer freely and send it to all your Chenoweth relatives. Well formated forms can be found at Bill Chinworth's Reunion site

TRANSPORTATION

The air terminal of record for Elkins is the Charleston, West Virginia, with car rentals to Elkins, WV, although fares to Charleston may be pricey.

The Elkins -Beverly area is serviced from Interstates 79 (west), 64, (south), 68 (north), and 81, (east). From these controlled access routes, US 50, 219, 250, and 33 lead directly to the reunion sites following the old Indian trails turned turnpikes that our ancestors used to open the land. What a historic travel feast! The committee says it’s best to pump up the tires and change the oil and come on over. Pack an umbrella, too.

With regard to parking, the area is supplied with adequate parking facilities at no charge as it is a college campus. Additionally, there is a highly developed tourism industry in place so private conveyance is the mode of choice.

HOUSING

There are two notable housing accommodations available and yet housing may be at a premium. On the weekend previous to the family reunion, the college hosts a summer school program called the Augusta Festival. (It may well be worth your while to come early and take some courses in the folk arts.) So, we strongly urge you to make your lodging reservations promptly.

The notables are the Days Inn and the Graceland Inn and Conference Center. Additionally there are twelve other motels in the area. A block of rooms have been reserved at the Days Inn which is near at hand to the Davis and Elkins campus and Graceland is on the campus. Here’s the pertinent data one place at a time.

Day’s Inn is located in Elkins on the US 33 highway. When calling for reservations, use the number above and mention The Chenoweth National Family Reunion to receive the reduced rate of $53.00 per room per day for two with the ten percent tax added. The Day’s Inn is the newest motel in Elkins. It has 200 parking spaces and is handicapped accessible. The room rate is a local offering so don’t use the Day’s Inn national 800 lines to call for reservations.

The Inn is the home of the former West Virginia Senator Henry Davis, is named for his daughter, Grace, and is located on the Davis and Elkins college campus because Mr’s. Davis and Elkins were the founders of the college.

Graceland is a country inn which features eleven rooms, antique furniture and appointments ranging from $75.00 to $150.00 per night for varied accommodations. Views of Graceland appointments have been offered on the Chenoweth Family web site and it has its own site as noted below. Besides splendid choices of rooms to let, reservations only meals are offered at the noon hour and for a Sunday brunch. A percentage reduction will be offered to the family during the family reunion. To call for reservations, use the 800 number, follow directions on the recording (Press 1!), ask for Carol, and mention the Chenoweth Family Reunion again. [Note there are only about 16 rooms here and few are likely to be left]

The Conference Center is a converted dormitory adjacent to Graceland Inn with twenty-six rooms offered for $45.00 to $50.00. The fancy name is the Robert C. Byrd Center for Hospitality and Tourism. These two lodging locations will be closest to reunion activities and food service areas.

MEAL PLAN:

This family reunion covers four days and offers more venues for good eating. Therefore, the committee has put together a meal plan that covers meals from Thursday's supper through Sunday's breakfast at the Davis and Elkins college cafeteria. The conference rate, based on a predetermined number of meals, is: breakfast $3.00, dinner $4.00, and supper $5.25 which totals $12.25 per day. The walk up, or unreserved rates are: breakfast $4.00, dinner $5.50, and supper $6.50, or a rate of $16.00 per day. So, a little planning would save some money. Children aged seven through twelve will be served at half price. Children under seven will be served free of charge.

CAMPGROUNDS:

For those of you who wish to drive the family armored personnel carrier to West Virginia, you'll probably want to know about camp grounds. Hosts, Donna and Randy Allan, suggest contact with two that are nearest to Elkins. There are no campgrounds in Elkins or Beverly but there are many in the area.

DEADLINE - CANCELLATION

Early registration will save money and allow the committee to operate effectively. The deadline for reunion registration will be July 6, 2002. If you find you need to cancel your reservations, a full refund will be made prior to July 6, 2002. After that date, a ten dollar late fee will be deducted from the refund.
